The ABC’s of Salvation

A – Admit

Admit to God that you are a sinner. The first people God created chose to sin and disobey God. Ever since then all people have chosen to sin and disobey.

Isaiah 53:6a All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way;

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Repent, turn away from your sin.

Acts 3:19 Therefore repent and turn back, that your sins may be wiped away

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

B – Believe

Believe that Jesus is God’s Son and that God sent Jesus to pay the penalty for sin.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.”

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 Peter 3:18a For Christ also died for sins once for all; the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God

C – Confess

Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Romans 10:9-10 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.

Romans 10:13 For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

When you are ready to admit to God that you are a sinner, repent and turn away from sin, believe that Jesus is God’s Son sent to die to pay for all sin, and confess your faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord, then you are ready to become a Christian. Here’s a sample prayer you can use to admit, believe, and confess:

Dear God I know I am a sinner and have rebelled against You. I believe Jesus died for my sin and only through faith in his death and resurrection can I be forgiven. Today I turn away from my sin and want Jesus to be my Savior and Lord. From this day forward I will choose to follow Jesus. Thank you, Lord, for loving me and for forgiving me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
